Do I need to have my appliances tested?

Checking electrical equipment in the workplace for safety is a well-established practice, following the introduction of the Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR) in 1989.

The law requires equipment to be properly maintained if a lack of (or poor) maintenance would result in danger. As part of maintenance, inspections are necessary and testing may also be required.

How to arrange a test

Click the Book a test link in the header and fill out some details so we can get back to you with a price and arrange the visit.

We will do our best to work around your schedule so as to minimise any disruption as we will have to turn off and disconnect equipment to perform the safety checks.

The price? Our prices are very competitive and we also have special prices and deals for students and local charities and community groups.

To keep our prices competitive we currently only operate within a 45 minute drive from Aldermaston:

Outlet checks

Did you have your mains outlets check on your last PAT safety test? Probably not.

For a small additional fee we will test your outlets when on-site performing your PA Test.

We check your outlets for correct wiring (polarity) and live/neutral/earth connections as well as a full visual check for robustness as part of our standard office safety check.

Does this outlet look safe?

Please don’t be complacent about your outlets. A lot can go wrong behind that white facia and maybe you won’t find out until an electrical accident happens.

Read about an otherwise unknown dangerous socket that we recently uncovered.

Full test reports

Upon completing our tests, we will provide you with a spreadsheet detailing every item tested, the electrical properties and all visual inspection results.

You can then use this report as an asset register.

If you have your items labelled with a barcode we will scan this and add it to the test report.

If you wish to have all your items labelled with a new barcode we can pre-print labels matching your numbering system and apply them during the inspection.

What could possibly fail?

Without a thorough inspection lurking dangers could be waiting to strike. Here are some we uncovered recently.

    Failed Extension Reel

We all probably own or use an Extension Reel, but how safe is it? This Extension Reel, although showing a bit of wear, looks safe enough and in fact would pass a PAT cable test. But all not is as good as it seems. Avoid this type of fault by following some simple tips. Here’s…

    Dangerous socket found and replaced

On a recent safety check while testing the mains outlets I had a problem inserting my 13A Socket Tester. There was clearly no connections happening when I pushed the tester into the socket – it just fell out. Suspecting something bad was happening behind the facia plate I isolated the socket at the consumer unit…
